  • Rules for Promotion of Eliminating Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities at the University of Electro-Communications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n

      \nThe Rules shall specify the matters required foraculty staff (including part-time staff) of the University to appropriately deal with the Act for Eliminating Discrimination<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • The subjects of the Rules are all individuals with any form of disabilities prescribed by the Basic Act on Persons with Disabilities, who are involved in the education or study at the University,or the general activities of the University <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n

        • If considered as a justifiable reason, the reason should be explained to students with disabilities to try to obtain their understanding.<\/li>\n
        • If considered as an excessively heavy burden, non-provision of services in all or in part shall be decided by the President following discussion at the Student Support Center.<\/strong><\/li>\n
        • In this case, the reason should also be explained to students with disabilities to try to obtain their understanding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n

          Rules outline: penal provisions<\/h3>\n
            \n
          • When discriminatory treatment has been made against or reasonable accommodation has not been provided for any person with disabilities although the burden associated with such implementation is not disproportionate (…), disciplinary action or other action shall be taken in accordance with the Work Rules or other regulations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            Provided, however, that treatment with justifiable reason under the standard law (the Act for Eliminating Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities) and non-provision of reasonable accommodation which imposes an excessively heavy burden shall be allowable.
            \n“What is justifiable reason?” or “What is an excessively heavy burden?” should be determined on a case-by-case basis. So, in Japan, these matters are now being discussed actively by related organizations. The Office for Students with Disabilities want to collect the voices from faculty staff involved and coordinate work and services with UEC and students.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

              The role of the Office
              \nExtract from the Rules<\/h3>\n
                \n
              • As a contact for consultation about discrimination on the basis of disability, the Office for Students with Disabilities, <\/strong>Open Student Consultation section, Health Care Center, faculty staff appointed by the President, or others shall collect and pass on details of consultation to the Office for Students with Disabilities, and respond to requests by sharing information among staff in charge while taking privacy protection into account.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n
